Q & A with Kasey Denton

How did you get into event planning?

I started my business as a wedding cake company. So many of my clients were asking me questions about their events and then asking for my help that my cake business became a wedding coordination business.

What is your favorite thing about your job?

I love everything that has to do with weddings! I also love being a part of the beginning of a couple’s life together and the romance and excitement that goes along with it!

Is there an event that you planned that stands out as your favorite?

Oh gosh, I have loved them all!  One that stands out was a wedding where the bride wanted to feel like her guests were in a tent, but the venue was a country club.  So we had custom ceiling and draping designed to create the look of a tent.  That was a favorite for sure!

If you could change one thing about your industry what would it be?

I wish Pinterest had a price listing on each pin.  So many clients have come to me with wonderful ideas only to be blown away by how much those ideas would cost in "real life".  Yes, the average wedding is around $35,000, but those featured on Pinterest can easily be three to four times that amount.

What is the best piece of advice you can give to a future client?

Hire an event planner!!!  It isn't a luxury, it is a necessity!  I have so many people tell me that they wished they had hired at the very least an event manager (day-of coordinator) because they were so busy coordinating the event they couldn't enjoy it.  To me that is the saddest thing to hear!

Why does your work stand out from others who do what you do?

Because I’m awesome (laughs). No, I think that my work stands out because of the attention to detail that I give to the couple and to events. My background experiences have made me very adaptable to different spaces and ideas. Every event is different and being able to adapt and see the details in each one is something that I am extremely proud of and that stands out.

What is your greatest strength?

I used to think that organization was my greatest strength. While I am an extremely organized person, I realized that where event planning is concerned, my true strength is accurately interpreting my client’s vision for their event.

How do you spend your down time?

I have lots of hobbies!  I love to read, probably too much!  I also scrapbook, sew, cross stitch, and play with my new embroidery machine.  When I'm not crafting I'm probably remodeling a room or re-arranging furniture or redecorating our house.  I think I drive my husband crazy with all my interior design projects!  When we have time in the off season we travel.

When you travel, where is your favorite place to go?

My favorite place in the whole world is a place called Ten Mile, just outside of my hometown in Saratoga, Wyoming.  I spent MANY summers there helping my grandpa irrigate the pastures.  I think it is the most beautiful place in the world!

What is on your travel wish list?

I would LOVE to do a wedding at Vizcaya in Miami Florida!  I was born at Miami Dade Hospital which borders the gardens of Vizcaya, and I would love to be able to do a wedding there.  While I was there I would do back to Key Biscayne and visit the street we lived on.

Let us in on your biggest guilty pleasure!

I absolutely love expensive perfume!  My Nana would get me a bottle every year for Christmas or my birthday and it just kinda stuck with me.  My current favorite is Euphoria by Calvin Klein.

Tell us something that isn't commonly know about you.

I'm high blue belt in Tae Kwon Do but I haven't practiced seriously in a really long time.
